Vietnam Global Campus 21 launched.


March 6th, 2004, Vietnam Global Campus 21 (Vietnam GC21) was officially launched in MTI (Management Training Institute: http://www.mti.gov.vn), Hanoi, Vietnam. This is a joint-project between InWent (http://www.inwent.org/), VDC (Vietnam Data and Communication: http://www.vdc.org.vn) and MTI. The e-learning platform was provided by InWent and hosted in VDC. MTI and VDC will provide the content and run this platform. A workshop has been carried out by InWent, VDC and MTI to transfer technologies which will be used to localize the platform as well as to develop content for it.
Vietnam GC21 project is one part of Vietnam Country Gateway (VNCG http://www.vietnamgateway.org) project which is funded by World Bank and the State Bank of Vietnam.

ASOCIO summit in Hanoi

The summit took place in Hanoi from November 27 to November 30, 2003 together with a serie of other IT events such as WITSA (World Information Technology and Services Alliance) conferences, Vietnam Software Festival, Vietnam CIO forum and IT week.

This is a very special event to Vietnamese IT Industry because it gathered more than 700 IT officials from 40 countries talking about the develoment of IT in the future. At the summit, officials from Thailand, India, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam presented the master plans of IT in their countries. Also, many different topics were discussed from different points of view: e-commerce, e-government, human resources, software development, and especially there were presentations about co-operation and assistance between the countries in the region with the aim of developing a common strong IT market.

ASOCIO, the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization, has now 17 member countries: Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Myanmar, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, NewZealand, The Philippines, Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam and 5 partner countries: USA, UK, Canada, Spain and France. The number of company members has reached over 10,000.

Biz news: 'Spirit' the unity of IT retail stores in Thailand

Dec 4, 03: IT retail stores from 13 provinces, 23 companies, announced to formed up "Spirit", Spirit Enterprise - in full name. Spirit will be an Co-op for IT retailing in Thailand. The role of Spirit will be Centralize of Product development, ie product-distribution cost sharing, marketing campaign.

Members of Spirit are Talent Solutions Services Co., Ltd. (Bangkok), Ratanapol Computer shop (Chiangmai), Kongan IT Mart (Kongan) and so on. Mr. Nattapong Pankietpaisan was elected as CEO of Spirit Enterprise at present time.

According to Mr. Nattapong, “Spirit will form up for the purpose of IT product quality, price. So we will have more efficiency in IT competition. Spirit will help us in centralize of product distribution channel among our members. At present, product in Spirit network consist of Desktop PC, Notebook, Refill Inkjet, Replacement Cartridge and UPS (Uninterruption Power System)“.

IT Market in Thailand nowsday, especially for Hardware, is in the stat of highlycompetition. The 3 Giant IT distributors of Thailand are “Data IT” (from Datamat) and IT City (from Sahaviriya OA) and VALUE system. Also, all over parts of Thailand, Northern, North-eastern, Central, Western and Southern are increasing number of new IT forming group.
